WINTRY DAYS AND AN UNEXPECTED VISITOR
We don't get too many wetas, fortunately. This one turned up in a large carton and was soon encouraged to return to the hedge. His feelers are long which makes him look even bigger. There was a time when the mere sight of a weta was frightening, but these days, not so much. In fact, they are quite beautiful in their own way.
This is the coldest winter we have had for some time. The fire has warmed the lounge up and it's nice to be inside. So much for the pile of firewood. We are getting through it so quickly will need to take care not to use it up too soon. I took this photo at about five o'clock and it is looking pretty ominous. More rain on the way.
Shedding the extra kilo or two will be a problem in a few weeks. Kit is hungry all the time and does well out of the leftovers. The birds know to wait for their share and there's plenty for everyone. It is amusing watching them swoop down, with others flying in to join them.
