MAKING THE MOST OF SUMMER....
There's a squabble going on between the bedding dahlias and so many hungry snails. They need to stand their ground and send those blighters packing... with a little help of course.
These blue sweet peas are clambering up around the lavender in a tub and once in full flower should make a good display.
We are rapidly filling up every space in the garden... but I am sure when the Dublin Bay climbing roses arrive next week they will squeeze in somewhere. The deep red blooms will be a welcome contrast and flower over a long period.
Those determined snails are having a good go at the rhubarb as well. I made a rhubarb and apple crumble last week... easy to do and delicious.
The Burbank plum is starting to ripen at last and is fairly well covered this year. It needed a pollinator and now has a Santa Rosa espalier next to it.
Here are a few Santa Rosa plums. It was laden with small fruit prior to the strong equinoctal winds a couple of months ago and most of the fruit was blown off. I will need to secure it firmly before next season's gusts.
Craig will be pleased to see these when he gets back from his walk... if I don't beat him to them. We had a busy day yesterday moving all the firewood and stacking it under cover. A few aches and pains this morning after that lot. Hmm... I think he deserves these more than me.
This is the second lot of lettuce I have put in and we enjoy them each day. Craig fries the fish which he has got down to a fine art and we have it with a salad picked from these tubs. They are delicious in a sandwich with Vegemite also. Well, so much for pottering about in the garden today. It's beautiful here... not too hot and a gentle breeze for good measure.
I can hear Craig in the kitchen making coffee... here he is now... I will post more another time.
