RIPENING TOMATOES, HUMID DAYS AND MORE RAIN AHEAD...

Four of the plants have come out already after showing signs of stress and blight. I sprayed them a couple of weeks ago with Yates Copper Oxychloride and the others look really healthy, but just to be sure, removing these ones seemed prudent.

Fortunately, there are plenty of spare plants coming along well, but I will need to plant them well away from the affected area. Meanwhile, green tomatoes cover window sills and the sheltered area outside: ripening quickly and plenty left over for another batch of Green Tomato Chutney.

We are well into summer already, but haven't seen much of it so far, although today was magnificent after so much rain. A quick dash down to the supermarket for a couple of things, then just pottering about sending Green Shield Beetles off to a better place before spraying Passion Vine nymphs with soapy water. Boy! They love the Hibiscus, citrus and Passion fruit.

  1. Hi Yvonne, hows things going? Not too much summer from the sounds of it. Do what vineyards do work with gardens? They plant roses in front and when they get affected, its time to deal with the problem before they get to the grapes... Just wondering.

  2. Thanks for the tip Teo. I didn't know about that and it's good to learn something new. The grapes are fine and no sign of Botrytis at this stage. Things are really good here — hope it is the same there. By now, you will be well settled in your new flat and catching up with friends, but finding your way around Wellington Hospital may be challenging. Guess you have figured out a few short cuts by now. Take care. :)
