Yesterday Craig dashed in to say there was a Mynah bird up on the pergola and it appeared to be talking so I followed him out to see what it was all about. Soon enough, the bird set forth in a deep voice repeating several times, "Go check the mail!" He was bowing his head as he did so and it was really amusing. I quickly tore upstairs to get the camera, but of course the batteries needed recharging and by the time I got around to taping this video he wasn't so forthcoming.
Well, a wolf whistle will have to do for now, but in the meantime he makes a beeline for me every time I go outside, landing on my head or shoulder and giving me a peck or two for good measure. I have learned not to put my hand up to move him off and just prefer to carry a small stick to coax him away instead.
Anyway, it looks as though he has decided to stay for a while so I guess our menagerie continues to grow, but we would not have it any other way.

It has been quite nippy over the last few days and the thought of spring is appealing, but before then we have plenty to do. In fact, a major tidy up needed after the house repairs, painting and so on.
Karl and Craig got to work and painted the pergolas and other outside areas while I pottered about with the camera taking a few shots of them. It had been a good while since Karl's last visit over from Australia and it was great to share this special time with my sons.
Job well done... thanks guys.

Kit came charging in after having a good rummage in the spare room and I don't know who was more surprised.
If it is his idea of getting about incognito or just a hapless moment it proved amusing all the same and it is pretty obvious the duster could do with a workout as well.

Some much needed home maintenance has led to considerably more than I expected.... but isn't it usually the way... especially after 30 years or so. The studio revamp has come together well and decking it out has been fun... so much so that galloping over the budget to some extent seemed okay at the time.
Now the scaffolding is up and painting about to start our builder is replacing some of the boards which has led to a timely reminder to prioritise the spending. A couple of rotten joists as well as some framing needs replacing with one of the joists holding up the cantilevered area requiring additional support.
Craig is very pleased with his new area with insulation providing warmth and comfort and the revamp has
been a complete success thanks to ZJ Builders.
